This Read Me document provides late-breaking news about Macintosh® PowerBook™ Fax/Data Modem firmware 1.2 not covered in the "Macintosh PowerBook Fax/Data User's Guide". You may need to refer to the guide to understand the use of several terms in this document.
• NEW BREAK HANDLING IN DIRECT AND NORMAL MODES
When the PowerBook Fax/Data Modem is connected in direct/normal mode (no compression, no error correction AT&Q0 - AT\N1), and a local DTE break is detected, the modem will always send a four second break to the remote modem. If AT%M0 or AT%M1 was set, the modem will then go back to command mode.
• NEW BREAK HANDLING IN RELIABLE MODE
When the PowerBook Fax/Data Modem is connected in compression or error correction mode (AT&Q5 - AT\N3), and a local DTE break is detected, the modem will send an MNP break frame to the remote modem before going back to command mode depending on AT%Mn setting (see below).
• NEW COMMAND AT%Mn
New command to select/deselect the +++AT escape sequence and/or local break handling. This command selects the way the PowerBook Fax/Data Modem goes back to command mode during a connection with a remote modem:
AT%M0: The PowerBook Fax/Data Modem goes back to command mode if it detects a
local DTE break or if it detects the +++AT..(*)...[CR] string sequence.
AT%M1: The PowerBook Fax/Data Modem goes back to command mode only if it
detects a local DTE break.
AT%M2: The PowerBook Fax/Data Modem goes back to command mode only if it
detects the +++AT..(*)...[CR] string sequence. (Default)
(*) This is a command string of 0 to 13 characters.
• NEW SIZE FOR THE AT COMMAND BUFFER
The input command buffer has been increased from 40 to 60 characters. It allows the dial string to include a credit card number for specific uses.
•NEW DEFAULT SETTING
The default setting for the modem is normal mode (AT&Q6 - AT\N0) and AT%M2. Modem settings can be displayed using AT&V and AT\S commands.
